Lip Extension

August 2012: 6” x 2.5”, painted polymer clay, linoleum, PET-G tube, saran wrap.

This sculpture is meant to extend the the lips. I carved the linoleum in the shape of a lipstick imprint of my lips and then molded a polymer clay casing, which I painted to match the linoleum. I then glued a PET-G plastic tube into the back of the casing and put saran wrap on the other end so that it could be replaced for use by a different person.

In the performance aspect, two lip extensions were created, so that when two people kissed with them, it would be at an awkward distance, defying the intimate nature of a normal kiss.
