Spring 2013: 18” x 24”; gel ink pen

This drawing is best experienced in person, but a similar experience can be gained from first looking at the drawing zoomed out and then slowly zooming in. The idea behind this drawing came from a meditative doodling activity called Zentangle. I photographed my father under harsh lighting and then penciled in shapes to represent different values (like making a vector portrait in Adobe Illustrator). I then filled these sections with a selection of patterns based on different densities, to create tone.
